Autonomous and electric vehicles: embedded software

Program the real-time, safe systems of vehicles.

Your running project

Monitor an electric motorbike's battery

The need
Read voltage and temperature, warn before failure, estimate range.
The data
Sensor readings, or public battery logs.
External tools
CArduinoBus CANSimulateur

Workshop

Establish the needs

Who uses it, what problem it solves, how to tell it worked.

Precision of your question: 0/5

What you will learn

  • C and C++ for embedded, real time
  • CAN bus and vehicle electronic architecture
  • Batteries, charging and energy management
  • Functional safety (ISO 26262) and testing

Certifications to aim for at the end

No recognised certification is specific to autonomous or electric vehicles. These cover automotive software and mainly address people already in the sector.

These certifications are issued by their own bodies, not by Nangmo, and their exams are paid for with them. Checked on 3 November 2026: confirm the language, price and exam location on their site before registering. These exams are generally taken without AI: you will need to read and reason on your own.

How to start a career in this field

  1. 1Have a first C program generated for a low-cost board, then explain it line by line.
  2. 2Build a concrete project: reading a CAN bus, or monitoring a battery.
  3. 3Take ISTQB Foundation: software testing is a good way into this sector.
  4. 4Target suppliers and local electric mobility (motorbikes, buses, charging), or an internship abroad.

First jobs to aim for

  • Junior embedded developer
  • Automotive software tester
  • Battery systems technician
