Four trades under one roof

A laboratory, a software workshop, a school

Nangmo Academy brings together, in Yaoundé, an applied physics research institute, a mobile and web development workshop, a training activity and a data practice. Each trade has its own facilities and its own deliverables.

What the academy does

Four distinct trades, which do not resemble one another and do not address the same people. Each has its own facilities, its own deliverables and its own way of being judged.

01Active

Materials Science Research

The academy's applied physics research institute. Twelve areas in condensed matter, plasma physics and statistical physics, on the questions that govern energy and electronics in the humid tropics.

What you get

  • Twelve research areas, three departments
  • Measurement and qualification under tropical conditions
  • Open-access publications, data and code

Mobile and web development

Mobile applications, websites and bespoke software, written for real operating conditions: intermittent networks, modest handsets, power cuts. Software that assumes fibre and a recent phone serves no one here.

What you get

  • Android and iOS applications, offline mode included
  • Websites and web applications, from mockup to deployment
  • Takeover, audit and maintenance of existing software

Training

A tool delivered with nobody able to take it over is a tool lost. The academy therefore trains the teams who will use it: developers, measurement technicians, teachers, and managers who need to understand what they are buying.

What you get

  • Short in-house sessions, on one specific tool
  • Long tracks, from a first program to autonomy
  • Training through research, in the physics laboratory

Data, AI and business software

Most organisations produce data they never use: paper registers, scattered spreadsheets, readings never consolidated. The academy puts them into a database, builds the tools that use them, and states what those tools cannot do.

What you get

  • Collection, cleaning and databasing of existing records
  • Dashboards and reports, legible to the people who decide
  • Models and automation, measured on their error rate

What they share

An academy doing both physics and mobile applications owes an account of what holds the two together. Three rules, valid everywhere in the house.

Measure before claiming
An electrochemical cell, a delivered application, a forecasting model: in all three cases we state a figure and the uncertainty that comes with it, or we state nothing.
Build locally
Every project leaves behind people able to take it over. That is why training is one of the house's trades, not a side service.
Keep the work legible
Code, data, protocols and method are documented and handed over. Nothing essential stays in a black box to which we hold the only key.
