Robotics
Program and run robots in the real world.
Your running project
A robot that sorts objects, in simulation
- The need
- Recognise an object, grab it, put it away, and stop when unsure.
- The data
- Scenes and images generated by the simulator.
- External tools
- ROS 2GazeboPythonOpenCV
Workshop
Establish the needs
Who uses it, what problem it solves, how to tell it worked.
What you will learn
- Electronics, motors and sensors
- Python, C++ and ROS 2
- Kinematics, control and vision
- Industrial automation and safety
Certifications to aim for at the end
We could not confirm an independent certification available from Africa. These two remain to be checked with their issuers. For ROS, we found no official certification.
- Entry levelSACA C-103 Certified Industry 4.0 Associate - Robot System OperationsSmart Automation Certification AllianceHands-on test at an authorised centre: we found none outside the US. To be confirmed with the issuer.
- Entry levelFANUC Certified Robot OperatorFANUCBrand-specific and US-centred. To be confirmed with FANUC.
These certifications are issued by their own bodies, not by Nangmo, and their exams are paid for with them. Checked on 3 November 2026: confirm the language, price and exam location on their site before registering. These exams are generally taken without AI: you will need to read and reason on your own.
How to start a career in this field
- 1Build a small mobile robot with a low-cost board.
- 2Learn ROS 2 in simulation: no expensive hardware is needed.
- 3Show your robot on video, with its public code.
- 4Target maintenance and automation in industry (breweries, cement, food processing), or an internship abroad.
First jobs to aim for
- Automation technician
- Junior robot programmer
- Industrial maintenance technician
