Internet of Things (IoT)
Connect sensors, networks and cloud into systems useful in the field.
Your running project
A cold chain sensor
- The need
- Alert as soon as a vaccine or fish fridge leaves its temperature range.
- The data
- Readings from your own sensor.
- External tools
- ESP32MQTTGrafana
Workshop
Establish the needs
Who uses it, what problem it solves, how to tell it worked.
What you will learn
- Sensors and microcontrollers
- Networks: MQTT, LoRaWAN, cellular
- Cloud collection and visualisation
- Connected device security and maintenance
Certifications to aim for at the end
The field has few certifications: we found no recognised advanced one.
- Entry levelCertified Internet of Things Practitioner (CIoTP, ITP-110)CertNexus
- IntermediateCertified Internet of Things Security Practitioner (CIoTSP, ITS-110)CertNexus
These certifications are issued by their own bodies, not by Nangmo, and their exams are paid for with them. Checked on 3 November 2026: confirm the language, price and exam location on their site before registering. These exams are generally taken without AI: you will need to read and reason on your own.
How to start a career in this field
- 1Build a first connected sensor that sends readings to a dashboard.
- 2Pick a real need: irrigation, cold chain, energy monitoring.
- 3Run it for several weeks in the field and record the failures.
- 4Present this field experience to operators, agribusiness and energy companies.
First jobs to aim for
- IoT technician
- Junior embedded developer
- Connected solutions integrator
